He’s best known for his roles in Waterloo Road and Emmerdale but I’m A Celebrity star Adam Thomas also appeared in a BBC Wales drama in 2019 that you may well have forgotten about.
Pitching In, which you can now stream, features Gavin & Stacey‘s Larry Lamb as recent widower Frank Hardcastle who runs Daffodil Dunes Holiday Park, in the picturesque village of Glan Mor on the north Wales coast, which is the heartbeat of the close-knit community.
Londoner Frank has lived there for 50 years, Since the death of his wife, Frank has relied on his close friends, wheelchair-user Stip and his wife Kitty, and the rest of his gang, to get him through the bad times.
When the village organises a surprise 71st birthday party for Frank, he is shocked to see his daughter, who he hasn’t seen since her mum’s funeral, with some news.
Adam, now 37, plays Jase in the drama, which was his first big role after he left behind Emmerdale’s Adam Barton in 2018 after nine years in the ITV soap. For a while he was said to be working in the property business before landing the Pitching In job.
“As a jobbing actor you can be out of work. That’s just the nature of the business… I have a family to support and will carry on doing so, whether it be acting or otherwise,” he explained via Instagram at the time.
One viewer described Pitching In on Rotten Tomatoes as “eccentric, mild and within the mainstay “village” canon of UK TV”.
Since the series, which didn’t return, Adam has enjoyed a number of high-profile roles including his 2023 appearance in BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and he’s now returned to I’m A Celebrity for the All Stars series 10 years after he first appeared as a campmate. and finished in third place.
Since I’m A Celebrity… South Africa launched earlier this week, Adam has been making his mark alongside the likes of Gemma Collins, Scarlett Moffatt and Sinitta.
But fans watching the series have now made a call for him to return to Emmerdale. Throughout his stint on the ITV soap, audiences watched his character navigate numerous plotlines, including a bitter rivalry with Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), resorting to arson, a turbulent marriage with Victoria Sugden (Isabel Hodgins), and a close friendship with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).
The charming troublemaker was last spotted in the soap making a run for it in 2018 after accepting responsibility for Emma Barton’s (Gillian Kearney) killing, which had actually been carried out by his mother, Moira (Natalie J. Robb).
Departing hurriedly in a shipping container to begin afresh in France, fans were devastated when Adam chose to depart Emmerdale.
Writing on X, one supporter posted: “When I said I wanted Adam Thomas back I meant on @emmerdale #ImACeleb #Emmerdale”, while another responded: “Shout it louder!”
A third expressed: “Seeing Adam Thomas on ITV and it not being in Emmerdale is deeply upsetting to me #imaceleb.”
