Zendaya doubts that Euphoria will have future seasons after season three premieres later this month.
The Drama actress discussed the HBO drama on the Monday (April 6) episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, and shared her belief that the show’s third season will be its final one.
“I think so,” Zendaya told Barrymore in the video below when asked if the show’s third season will be its last. “Closure is coming.”
“Euphoria, it cracked my heart open,” Zendaya continued. “Rue taught me so much about life that, I mean, the crew also has seen me grow up. I owe so much to that show. Rue taught me so much about empathy and redemption and she taught me a lot. I’m very grateful for all of it.”
Created by Sam Levinson, Euphoria premiered in 2019 and was followed by a second season in 2022. After multiple delays because of internal issues and the deaths of cast members Angus Cloud and Eric Dane, Euphoria will finally return on Sunday, April 12.
The upcoming season will also see the return of original cast members Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Alexa Demie and more, while new players include Danielle Deadwyler, Rosalía, and Natasha Lyonne.
It was rumored in a 2024 article by The Hollywood Reporter that Zendaya and Levinson had a rift over his work on widely-panned one-season musical drama The Idol. The actress allegedly disapproved of The Idol facing claims of breeding a toxic work environment and wanted distance from the show’s hypersexual nature.
“Her image is pristine,” a source told THR. “And fans were turning against Sam.”
Zendaya, who also stars in The Drama, Dune: Part Three, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day this year alone, plans to go into “hiding” after her big year.
“I really appreciate everyone who supports any of the movies or supports my career in any kind of way,” she said on Fandingo’s Big Ticket. “I’m deeply appreciative, and like I said, I just hope you guys don’t get sick of me this year.”
