CBS is shaking things up, and Gayle King might not survive the overhaul.

The American TV personality has been the face of “CBS Mornings” for over a decade. However, she may be transferred to another role when her contract expires next year.

Earlier this year, it was reported that King was allegedly considering cutting ties with the network to distance herself from the “chaos” unfolding in the company.

For now, King is still the face of “CBS Mornings.” However, Variety recently reported that she is expected to step down as anchor of the popular program when her contract expires in May 2026.

Although King may no longer anchor “CBS Mornings,” there are reportedly signs that the network would like to keep her within the news division, possibly producing her own program.

When asked about the 70-year-old TV host’s future at CBS, a spokesperson for the network said, “There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026. She’s a truly valued part of CBS, and we look forward to engaging with her about the future.”

Besides King, there have been several notable overhauls at CBS, with Norah O’ Donnell stepping down from her role as anchor for “CBS Evening News.” She took up a new role in January this year and now serves as a senior correspondent for CBS News.

Following Paramount’s merger with Skydance, the company is also set to cut ties with several more staffers at CBS News. Notably, the Ellisons, who now control the company’s corporate ownership, have said they intend to switch things up because the network’s current content leans too far to the left.

News of King’s shaky future at CBS comes barely five months after The Blast reported that the TV host was already planning to walk away from the network. According to the report, an insider close to the situation shared that 2025 “could be Gayle’s last year.”

Another source speculated on the reason King was planning to leave CBS, noting that she didn’t want to be part of the “mess” there, with its declining ratings and ongoing scandals.

“She didn’t sign up for this mess. It’s over. She’s still one of the most respected names in news, and she’s being dragged down by chaos she can’t control,” the source said.

King’s frustrations with CBS also went beyond the network’s legal trouble and scandals. She was reportedly unhappy when her show was moved from the Times Square Studio to the CBS Broadcast Center.

A source shared that the journalist was “livid” about the location change and viewed it as a “personal attack,” as location changes were not included in the one-year extension deal she signed with the network.

The source also added that the TV personality “made it very clear” that “she’s not going to be shoved into some dingy little room. She expects the same level of comfort and prestige she had at 1515 Broadway. No exceptions.”

Months after King’s dissatisfaction with CBS came to light, President Donald Trump publicly came for her and verbally attacked her career on social media.

Per The Blast, Trump shared a post on his Truth Social Platform in August that read, “Gayle King’s career is over. She should have stayed with her belief in TRUMP. She never had the courage to do so.”

The President also took more digs at the TV anchor,  writing that she lacked talent and strength. He also reposted an article that claimed her job at CBS was on shaky ground.

Even though King’s future at CBS is not set in stone, the broadcast journalist has continued to deliver her best during “CBS Mornings.”

In September, she had an unexpected interaction with her co-host Tony Dokoupil, who criticized Jimmy Kimmel’s return to the late-night stage, and she handled it seamlessly.

During the show, King raved about the millions of viewers Kimmel attracted for his return episode after being suspended for his controversial remarks on the late Charlie Kirk.

However, before she could finish her analysis of the boost in Kimmel’s viewership numbers, Dokoupil cut her off, saying, “But the 26 million [views] on social media, most of that money doesn’t go to ABC. And the business is bad if you’re offending half the country, ones that voted for the guy he doesn’t like. So. Here we are. Good luck, late-night,” per The Blast (https://theblast.com/728907/cbs-tense-tony-dokoupil-jimmy-kimmel/)

King was momentarily stunned by her co-host’s reaction. However, she didn’t let the exchange derail the show. Instead, she briefly remained silent in her chair before seamlessly moving on with the show.
