A new season of classical concerts is taking place at Carlisle Cathedral this spring.

The free afternoon recitals are being held in the Cathedral’s Fratry Hall every Wednesday starting at 2pm, with a retiring collection in support of the artists and the venue.

These concerts could be the perfect way to bring a little more music into your life this spring.

Here is everything you need to know about four of the upcoming concerts.

Laura Bailey – April 15

Pianist and vocalist Laura Bailey has sung and played since childhood and is set to bring a wealth of musical experience to her performances.

Sophie ILiaifar and Winnie Su – April 22

Mezzo-soprano, Sophie ILiaifar, and pianist, Winnie Su are set to perform pieces from Purcell, Handel, and Brahms, among many others in their afternoon recital.

Sophie ILiaifar is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music in Vocal Studies and Opera and Winnie Su is currently undertaking a master’s degree in Piano and Music Education.

Isabella Briggs – May 6

Bringing her piano recital to the Fratry Hall, Isabella Briggs has recently finished studies at the Royal Northern College of Music and has performed as a soloist, member of a piano quintet and as a choir member.

Briggs has previously undertaken lessons in Carlisle Cathedral on the organ with Edward Taylor.

Eira Lynn Jones – May 13

Harpist, Eira Lynn Jones, is widely recognised as one of the UK’s leading harp teachers and has previously worked with the Hallé, BBC Philharmonic and Opera North.

As a composer, she has been inspired by the stories that surround her, from medieval tales to contemporary events.
