I respect, and I think I appreciate, frankly, the real estate interests all around the area, who I think will make sure that we have not only the stadium itself, but ancillary development opportunities,” Lucas said.Further south, there were lots of families at Crown Center Friday.That facility’s parking, shops and restaurants are also part of the plan.”I live in Paola. So, we came up here for this and other things in the city, and it’s a fun area. I think it’ll I think it’ll improve the city,” said Zack Miller.”I think it’s a fair deal and it’s a fair trade,” said Cole Kessler.The Crossroads Community Association members overwhelmingly opposed a Royals ballpark at the old Star printing press building in 2024.This time, it’s a different ballgame.”It’s really perfect because we get the involvement without the interruption,” said Jeff Owens, the association’s vice-president.”I’ve listened to a lot of the public feedback, you know, positive and negative. I’ve heard more positive than negative,” Lucas said.The current layout of the ballpark would mean fans would have a clear view of the iconic Western Auto sign over the centerfield wall.According to Lucas, the seating capacity for the new ballpark would be about 35,000.It would be close to 3,000 fewer seats than Kauffman Stadium.
