Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black held court at CinemaCon to talk up their third “Jumanji” movie.
LAS VEGAS − If Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black are in the house, it means a lot of ribald comedy.
It also means another “Jumanji” film is on the way.
The trio appeared Monday, April 13, at CinemaCon, the convention for movie theater owners and studios, to introduce the latest film in the franchise, “Jumanji: Open World,” out Christmas Day.
“I feel like in this one, the game rules don’t apply,” Hart said, in between taking good-natured jabs at a “sorta drunk” Johnson.
“We know what this franchise means to people,” Black said before taking an exaggerated pause and yelling, “It means a LOT!”
A short clip previewed Johnson’s Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Hart’s Franklin “Mouse” Finbar and Black’s Professor Shelly Oberonon on another mission.
Bravestone and Finbar yell insults at each other in close-captioned Spanish, while other scenes spotlighted roving creatures, hot rods (and a Segway), jungles, deserts and snow banks.
This is the third film in the franchise starring Johnson, Hart and Black, following “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” in 2017 and “Jumanji: The Next Level” in 2019.
Johnson revealed that the trio just finished filming in Hawaii and also shared how “Open World” will pay tribute to a legend.
“This whole franchise would not have started without one man – Robin Williams,” Johnson said.
The late comedy icon starred in the 1995 film, based on the 1981 children’s book of the same name. Williams played Alan Parrish, the man who is dropped back into the real world after a quarter century trapped inside a supernatural board game.
“There is a little Easter egg for Robin that is in every single scene,” Johnson said, disclosing that the nod is one of the original dice used in the original film.
“Robin,” Johnson added, “as we like to say, this one’s for you.”
