In the screen adaptation, Lace diverges from her novel counterpart, Linda. While Linda is written as a custody lawyer who supports Margo throughout the book, she’s fused with another character from the novel in the series: Lace, reimagined as an ex-wrestler and lawyer, as well as a close friend of Jinx Millet’s.
Kidman, a multi-Emmy and Academy Award winner, brings decades of prestige to her role as Lace. Her résumé spans iconic performances as Celeste Wright in Big Little Lies, Masha Dmitrichenko in Nine Perfect Strangers, and Satine in Moulin Rouge! (2001), as well as more recent turns in Babygirl (2024) and the TV adaptation Scarpetta. Beyond her accolades, Kidman has cemented her place in the zeitgeist as the face of AMC’s now-iconic pre-show monologue: “We come to this place for magic.” A fitting association, as Kidman will undoubtedly be applying that same enchantment to her role as Lace.
