Based in central-western New South Wales, Simon Mackintosh is a beacon for those creatives who never give up on their music dreams.
A musician, singer-songwriter who has been writing songs since he was 18, Simon’s approach to making music is inspired by a deep belief in life and all its potential, as well as trying to understand the contradictory nature of humanity.
Now in his early 50s, and living in Coonabarabran, Mackintosh has recorded two albums: ‘On The Road To Find Out’ and ‘The Flying Zuchinni Brothers’ (the latter, a collaboration with Andy Lowe).
With his influences echoing his youth: Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, U2, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Marley, The Eagles; Simon’s latest endeavour is an EP project titled ‘Prison Cell’ that drops tomorrow (17 April), a collection of songs showcasing his pop-rock-folk-blues stylings.
The lead single is the jaunty, upbeat ‘I’m In Love’, “a song about the roller-coaster ride of being in love”.
A pop-rock number layered in funky feels, ‘I’m In Love’ is infused with bright, voluminous tones, the type of rhythm that connects swinging hips with shoulder shimmies.
It’s optimistic, sanguine music that fills the soul with joy, a snippet of escapism that also allows hope to flourish, a reminder of the power of music in shaping constructive attitudes.
“‘I’m In Love’ is a song about the roller-coaster ride of being in love. . . the dream, the joy and the illusions,” Simon says.
