City leaders and developers broke ground Thursday on a new immersive entertainment venue planned for downtown Cleveland, part of a broader redevelopment effort near one of the city’s key sports and entertainment hubs.

Cosm, Bedrock and Rock Entertainment Group jointly announced the start of construction on Cosm Cleveland. The venue will be located on Bedrock’s Rock Block development site across from Rocket Arena at the intersection of Prospect Avenue East, East 4th Street, and Huron Road East.

The venue is expected to open in 2027.

The project marks the fifth location for Cosm, a company focused on blending live sports, media and immersive technology through what it calls “shared reality” experiences. The venue is expected to host live sports broadcasts, entertainment events and immersive visual experiences in a high-tech environment.

Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb, City Council President Blaine Griffin and executives from Cosm and Rock Entertainment Group were among those attending the groundbreaking ceremony.

Cosm partners with major sports leagues and media companies, including the NBA, NFL and ESPN, to deliver events using advanced visual technology designed to replicate in-person experiences.

The Cleveland venue will feature a large LED dome with more than 12K resolution, along with wall-to-wall LED displays intended to create an immersive viewing environment. Officials said the design will also incorporate elements reflecting Cleveland’s identity and surrounding community.

Cosm previously listed the following programming planned for the Cleveland venue:

  • A slate of live sports offerings featuring NCAA Football, NFL, UFC, NBA, MLB, WWE, NHL, Premier League (EPL) and international soccer, Men’s and Women’s NCAA Basketball, Tennis, Golf, and more; building on official partnerships with leagues and broadcasters including FOX Sports, ESPN, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, CBS Sports, Amazon, and more.

  • Experiential cinema, expanding on the heels of Cosm unveiling the world’s first-ever cinematic presentation in Shared Reality of The Matrix, in partnership with Little Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures.

  • Immersive art experiences from members of the Cosm Studios Creator Program, including world-renowned photographer and filmmaker Bo Bridges and his surfing film Big Wave; filmmaker, director and co-founder of Planetary Collective Guy Reid; acclaimed composer and new media artist Ricardo Romaneiro; global artist and DJ Chris Holmes; award-winning new media artist Nancy Baker Cahill; and additional creators and studios to join the program in the future.

  • Cirque du Soleil’s timeless production “O.”

  • Additional entertainment including live music, performance, and more.

The project is being developed by Bedrock and designed by architecture firm Rossetti. It is part of Bedrock’s ongoing efforts to transform the downtown area surrounding Rocket Arena into a mixed-use entertainment district.
