New Céline Dion song Dansons marks her return after years away from spotlight

Quebec icon Céline Dion is returning with a new French-language song Friday, in what’s her first original track in several years.

It also marks a reunion with Jean-Jacques Goldman, who’s behind some of her most defining work.

The song is called Dansons, according to Dion’s team Thursday.

It is set to be released at 12:01 a.m. Friday, coming as she prepares for a return to the stage later this year in Paris.

Dansons, or Let’s Dance in English, reportedly leans into resilience and uncertainty, with Goldman describing it as a reflection of a world that has changed little since the pandemic. 

“We’re still dancing above the abyss,” he said in a statement.

The two collaborated on Encore un soir in 2016, but their most famous partnership remains D’eux, the 1995 album that became the best-selling French-language album of all time and cemented Dion’s crossover appeal.

A lyric video accompanying the new song, filmed in the streets of Paris, was released alongside the track.

Anticipation is building over Dion’s long-awaited return to live performance. She is scheduled to headline a five-week residency at Paris La Défense Arena later this fall.

These shows would mark Dion’s first time on stage since singing Edith Piaf’s Hymne à l’amour at the 2024 Paris Olympics opening ceremony. Dion’s final tour was the Courage World Tour in 2019 and 2020, which featured three dates in Quebec City and five dates in Montreal, but was cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The remainder was eventually cancelled because of her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis, which she spoke openly about in her 2024 documentary I Am: Céline Dion.

In recent months, Dion has re-emerged more publicly, including on social media, where she has posted lighthearted videos reacting to fans covering her songs.
