Family behind Boston’s oldest Irish pub wants to open entertainment venue in Dennis

The family that runs a celebrated Irish pub in Boston wants to open a sprawling tent-covered outdoor entertainment spot in Dennis Port this summer.

Backyard by Foley’s will stretch from an old two-story structure at 645 Main St. almost to Rogers Way. What is now a vacant lot will be redeveloped into an outdoor entertainment venue with seating for 384 and parking for 129 cars.

“We’re looking to create a space for families of all ages,” said partner Michael Foley II in an April 13 telephone call. “We’re trying to be a draw for Dennis Port.”

It’s a proposal some town officials see revitalizing downtown but has neighbors worried about noise and a diminished quality of life.

Barnstable’s Dawn Capra, who lost leg in crash, relieved by court outcome

Mary C. Grady, the 90-year-old Osterville woman police say drove into Dawn Capra at the Barnstable Transfer Station in 2025, has been placed on pretrial probation.

This means the charge of negligent driving against her will be dismissed if she complies with certain conditions, namely that she does not drive for seven years. The pretrial probation period expires on March 11, 2033.

“My basic thing with her is she’s 90 years old, she’s not going to jail. No way,” said Capra. “My big thing was that she never drive again. I just never wanted the woman to drive again. That was my bottom line.”
