Princess Eugenie’s husband was left “alarmed” by a demand from his father-in-law at their wedding, according to reports. Eugenie has kept a low profile alongside her sister Beatrice since Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office in February, but tensions with her father may have stretched back years. The former Duke of York reportedly caused “alarm” at his youngest daughter‘s wedding in October 2018 when he “insisted” on a procession through Windsor.
The claims of a divergence in opinion between Andrew and Jack Brooksbank were made by royal author Hugo Vickers in his book, Queen Elizabeth II: A Personal History. Mr Vickers suggested Andrew was “annoyed” that Eugenie and Jack’s weddings did not attract as much publicity as those of their royal relatives, and “persuaded” a company to film it, procession and all, as a result.
He wrote: “The groom was alarmed that Andrew insisted on a procession through Windsor, afraid that no one would be there to cheer them. But Windsor loves a procession and there was a good crowd.”
It comes after both Eugenie, 36, and Beatrice, 37, were notably absent from the Royal Family’s celebration of Queen Elizabeth II‘s 100th birthday on Tuesday, despite sharing a close bond with their late grandmother.
The sisters reportedly wanted to make sure the day was solely focused on the former monarch, fearing that their presence would ignite fresh conversation about Andrew’s links to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

“The late Queen’s granddaughters have been keeping a relatively low profile in the wake of everything that has transpired with their parents and stepping out now would inevitably draw attention.”
The princesses’ mother Sarah Ferguson also vanished from the public eye after email exchanges published by the US Department of Justice revealed her close relationship with Epstein, although she was spotted in Austria this month where she is reportedly staying at a £2,000-a-night chalet in the mountains.
