Sheinelle Jones released her new book, Through Mom’s Eyes, on April 14.
The Today show star opened up about the impact of being a single mom with Good Housekeeping.
Sheinelle also spilled which Today cast member she leans on the most when it comes to raising sons Kayin and Uche, along with daughter Clara.
Sheinelle Jones loves her Today show cast—and she’s opening up about how much of a team they really are behind the scenes.
In May 2025, Sheinelle endured the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh, from brain cancer. After that tragedy, she had to figure out what it meant to be a single mom to the couple’s three children: sons Kayin and Uche, and daughter Clara.
Luckily, Sheinelle hasn’t been alone in finding her family’s new normal. As she shared with Good Housekeeping when promoting her new book, Through Mom’s Eyes,on April 14, the Today With Jenna and Sheinelle star’s Today cast members have been by her side every step of the way.
Each of Sheinelle’s co-anchors offers her a different perspective on parenting, especially as her kids grow into adulthood.
“Here’s the truth—my co-workers have really been there for me in so many different ways,” Sheinelle told us exclusively. “Dylan [Dreyer] is a tough cookie with three boys, and when I’m feeling wishy washy, she gives me those eyes, and I can get it together. Meanwhile, Hoda [Kotb] is the heart. She’s the one I can call about anything, and she’s the one who told me to put Clara in musical theater. They’ve been amazing, truly.”
Sheinelle also noted that the show’s key men are essential to how she balances work and being a working single mom.
“Al [Roker], he is my Mr. Miyagi,” she added about the two’s bond. “He’s been there as a parent, and all of his kids have graduated. Willie [Geist] was at my first book event in Connecticut. And when I first got my job at the Today show, the first person I heard from in the building was Carson [Daly]. Every single colleague has their own special little place in my heart … and it’s not just the moms in my work life.”
Sheinelle was aware of the impact the Today cast had had on her life, even before she became a single mom.
“When I think about the family I work with, I don’t know a more resilient, stronger, and more faithful bunch,” she concluded. “The same I lean on them as a parenting tribe, I hope others can find the same. I feel so lucky to come to work every day and feel like I’m a part of a bigger thing. This is never lost on me, and I hope it continues to stay that way.”
