Jo Dee Messina hasn’t released a full-length studio album in a dozen years, but that’s about to change.
The country music veteran will release “Bridges” on June 5 and is launching a tour to go with it. She’ll play Packard Music Hall in Warren at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
The Massachusetts native hit the big time 30 years ago with a debut album that included the everlasting favorite “Heads Carolina, Tails California.” That song got a reset a few years ago when Cole Swindell sampled it in his song “She Had Me at Heads Carolina.”
Her first No. 1 hit, “Bye Bye,” arrived in 1998.
The upcoming album has already spawned a strong single in “Some Bridges.” The tune has the powerful lyric “some bridges are meant to burn.” It’s a life lesson about not repeating the mistakes of the past.
“We’re told as a kid, don’t burn bridges – you might need them later,” Messina said in a recent interview with radio personality Bobby Bones. “But sometimes you have to burn bridges if they would lead you back to a place that’s hurtful.”
As to what caused the delay between albums, Messina said she just didn’t have the time. She has two teenage boys, and taking care of them took up most of her days.
“I now have the time to do it, and I have the want,” is how she explained it on Taste of Country.
Messina has left a huge musical footprint in her long career, with nine No. 1 hits and 16 songs that landed in the Top 40.
