Jamie Lynn Spears can’t believe she’s about to have a high school graduate.
On Friday, April 24, the Zoey 101 star, 35, shared an emotional post on Instagram as she looked ahead to her daughter Maddie’s graduation. Sharing photos of the 16-year-old, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Casey Aldridge, from her senior year, as well as snaps of Maddie as a baby and appearing with her mom on a magazine cover, Spears opened up about her feelings regarding the milestone.
“Welp….the grad invites are sent, the cap and gown arrived, and the last regular day of school is here….I guess the lovely state of denial that I forced myself to be in has to end, bc the reality of time is coming at me like a freight train,” she began.
“I know the saying ‘the days are long, but the years are short’ is one of the most cliche sayings, bc it’s said so much, but I now know that cliches are only said so much bc they continue to ring true in every lifetime throughout the test of time. Maybe, people only hate cliches, bc they are the undeniable, unavoidable truth hitting us right in the face, and if you’re fortunate enough, kids growing up is one of those few guarantees in life,” continued Spears.

Spears went on to share how “grateful” she feels for “every up and down moment throughout the journey of motherhood this far.”
“It’s bittersweet, bc you’re so proud of everything they have accomplished this far, and so excited to watch everything that their future will bring, while also longing for them to stay your baby forever,” she wrote, “I know I’m one of luckiest mama’s in the world, so I’ll stop my rambling now, until I completely lose it on graduation day.”
Spears concluded her message by reminding other parents to “love on your babies” and to “really try to be present” no matter what. “You will NEVER regret spending time with your kids,” she wrote. “Also, it’s all about the little things, like today, I had a scoop of coffee ice cream for breakfast, I’ll probably have it for lunch too, bc tears & ice cream is an unbeatable duo.”
In the comments of the post, Maddie sweetly replied, “I love you” and “stop making me cry,” to which her mom wrote back, “You’re the one who just had to go and grow up.”

Last month, the Sweet Magnolias actress — who is also mom to daughter Ivey, 8, with her husband Jamie Watson — shared photos from another milestone: Maddie’s senior prom.
Spears posted several snaps with Maddie, alongside her friends, younger sister Ivey, and her prom date, before sharing a hilarious meme of her crying.
“SENIOR PROM🤍I am fine, totally not cryingggg😭,” she wrote in the caption.
In mid-February, Spears shared a video on her Instagram as Maddie tried on prom dresses. “But like how are we already trying on dresses for her SENIOR prom??????” Spears asked in her caption.
“Thanks to @sherrihill & @girligirl_boutique for always making these precious mother-daughter moments even more special💃🏼🥹🤍,” she added.
