Prince William is said to be seriously concerned about King Charles’s well-being as he heads into the U.S. state visit.
Charles, who has been undergoing treatment for a cancer diagnosis since early 2024, recently revealed that his therapy would be scaled back in 2026 following a favorable response.
Despite this improvement, William remains anxious about the grueling schedule and physical toll of a jam-packed four-day agenda featuring visits to Washington D.C., New York City, and Virginia.
William is concerned about his father heading to the U.S.
The royal pair will extend their journey with a royal visit to Bermuda, but according to Pelham Turner, a royal broadcaster in the U.K., William believes his father is overextending himself and fears for his health.
Pelham Turner told The Mirror US: “King Charles and Queen Camilla have caused allegedly a row within the Royal Family after accepting a visit to America as part of the 250th centenary celebrations.
“Sources close to the Royal family have allegedly stated that Prince William was against the couple going to the celebrations as he felt that his father’s health was still not the best but apparently he was overruled by Queen Camilla,” he added.
Experts characterize this as a crucial diplomatic effort to strengthen the transatlantic partnership during America’s 250th anniversary commemorations. The King is set to address a joint meeting of Congress and participate in an official White House state dinner hosted by President Donald Trump.
When speaking to Pauline Maclaran, co-author of Royal Fever, she said: “The visit has the potential to smooth out the relationship between Trump and the UK which has had a rough ride in recent times. I think that the prestige associated with the King visiting him will possibly soften Trump’s hardening attitude.”
Some commentators point to a clear uptick in William’s leadership presence, with the Prince of Wales progressively guiding aspects of the institution from behind closed doors as he readies himself for his eventual reign.
The trip will mark the first occasion a British monarch has visited the U.S. since 2007.
Following the American portion, the King plans to travel to Bermuda for his inaugural official tour of the territory as sovereign.
