Two Epstein-related scandals have rocked the British government since Trump last met with King Charles in September. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office on February 19 for allegedly sharing confidential information with Epstein. Days later, former U.K. ambassador to the U.S. Peter Mandelson was arrested over similar allegations. Both men denied any criminal wrongdoing.
U.S. Representative Ro Khanna asked Buckingham Palace to arrange a private meeting between the king and Epstein’s victims during his U.S. visit.
Earlier this month, the family of Virginia Giuffre supported that effort. Giuffre, who died by suicide last year, said she was forced to have sex with Andrew three times when she was 17.
“We strongly urge King Charles to meet with us and survivors and hear what we have to say,” the family said.
But in a letter from lawyers representing the king and queen, they said that would not be possible due to “ongoing police inquiries” in the U.K.
“The king and queen have consistently made clear their support for all victims of abuse, wherever and however perpetrated,” the letter said.
King Charles has stripped his brother of his title and evicted him from his home on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
