Aspen Community School presents ‘Dahlapalooza,’ May 1

Aspen Community School will perform “Dahlapalooza” at 7 p.m. May 1 at the Wheeler Opera House, 320 E, Hyman Ave. The stage performance features Roald Dahl’s most popular works, including “James and the Giant Peach,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “The BFG,” “Matilda,” “The Witches” and his early autobiography “Boy: Tales of Childhood.” For more information and tickets, visit wheeleroperahouse.com/event/aspen-community-school-presents-dahlapalooza-2.

Spritz Fridays, May 1

MOLLIE Aspen has partnered with Bom Dia Bubbles to present Spritz Fridays — every Friday in May. Kick off the weekend at this social series featuring a spring-forward cocktail menu and DJ-curated vibes. On May 1, DJ Alex Brough will set the scene from 5-8 p.m.; the spa pool and bar will be open from 3-8 p.m. The hot tub is open to the public and no tickets are required. Aspen Isis Theatre movies, May 1-7

Take advantage of Aspen’s very own theater. Isis Film Theatre is featuring four popular newly released movies: “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “Michael,” “Project Hail Mary” and “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.” Showtimes run from matinees to evening programming. The Art Base celebrates 30 years with open house, May 2

The Art Base will celebrate 30 years with a free community open house from noon to 5 p.m. May 2. Activities include hands-on art making, Crafternoons and the Twinkie King Cowboy classroom, a collaborative mural in the Imagination Station and make-your-own button and sticker-art tattoo stations. A bilingual tour of the Claudette Carter ARTMentors exhibition led by Kathy Marquez begins at 3 p.m., followed by a 4 p.m. conversation with founder Deb Jones and her daughter, Reina Katzenberger, on the organization’s past and future. Founded in 1996 and formerly the Wyly Community Art Center, the Art Base also celebrates retiring its mortgage in November 2025. All ages are welcome; refreshments provided. ‘Wild Things: High Country Sinfonia Spring Concert,’ May 3

“Wild Things: High Country Sinfonia Spring Concert” will be held at 4 p.m. May 3 at Aspen Chapel as part of High Country Sinfonia’s Spring Concert Series. The concert highlights Baroque works by Bach, Vivaldi and Saint-Saëns alongside selections from Roaring Fork Valley songwriter Natalie Spears’ album “Hymn of Wild Things,” arranged for string quintet. The program includes Bach’s Concerto for Violin and Oboe with guest artist Lori Patrick. It will also be presented at 6:30 p.m. May 1 in the Community Room at the Basalt Regional Library. Admission is free with a $20 suggested donation. Receptions follow both performances. Kentucky Derby Watch Party, May 2

The Kentucky Derby Watch Party will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. May 2 at the MOLLIE Roof Terrace Bar, located at 111 S. Garmisch St. The event will feature the race live on screen; Mint Juleps and race day snacks will be available for purchase at the bar. Guests are encouraged to wear their best hats and spring colors to celebrate the tradition and pageantry for this sports occasion, according to the website. ‘An Evening With The Burroughs,’ May 2

“An Evening With The Burroughs” will begin at 8 p.m. May 2 at Belly Up Aspen. Since 2013, the Colorado nine-piece has lit up stages around the country with their trademark brand of “sweaty soul music,” which is dance music. Bandleader and frontman Burroughs sings, dances and shouts, along with a dynamic assembly of horns and a rhythm section delivering onstage chemistry grown from real-life camaraderie. Keith Mayerson exhibit underway, May 3

“Keith Mayerson: My American Dream (Rocky Mountain High)” is on display while the museum is open, Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Aspen Art Museum, located at 637 E. Hyman Ave. The exhibit, which launched at the end of March, will continue through May 31. For more information on current exhibits, visit aspenartmuseum.org.

Art Days at Basalt Elementary School, through May 6

The Basalt Education Foundation, coordinated with The Art Base, continues to present the third annual “Art Days,” which began on April 8 and runs through May 6 at Basalt Elementary School. Local organizations and professional artists lead hands-on, art education experiences for K-4 students at Basalt Elementary School. The program offers each grade a full day of professional arts education designed to spark creativity, cultural enrichment and support experiential learning.
