Foo Fighters find the middle ground between a zombie attack and a mosh pit in the new music video for “Spit Shine,” a track off their latest album, Your Favorite Toy.

Dave Grohl wrote and directed the grisly, blood-soaked clip which begins with an alert system warning: “This is not a test — a viral outbreak has occurred. It is highly contagious and potentially lethal. Please stay indoors and do not panic.” The camera then cuts to the Foo Fighters, dressed in nice, clean, crisp white outfits, performing to an ecstatic crowd similarly dressed in nice, clean, crisp white outfits. (Casting for the video was helmed by Grohl’s daughter, Harper.)

Those clothes, of course, offer the perfect canvas for the mayhem that follows. As the Foo Fighters rip through “Spit Shine,” a cadre of zombies descends on the concert and carries out a wildly over-the-top massacre. Innards are eaten and blood is spelled, and yet the moshing never seems to stop.

It’s maybe no surprise Grohl went for a zombie-themed video: The musician is a big horror fan, and previously starred in and wrote the story for the 2022 comedy horror flick, Studio 666 (which also featured the rest of the Foo Fighters). In an interview with Rolling Stone around the release of the film, Grohl even noted how intertwined one of his favorite horror movies was with his punk rock youth.

“I enjoy horror movies; growing up in Washington, D.C., I was obsessed with The Exorcist, not only because it was filmed there, but because the bottom of those steps that are a big part of the movie is where all the punk rockers would drink on the weekend,” he said. “The liquor store next door would sell beer to, like, 11-year-olds.”

Foo Fighters released Your Favorite Toy last week, marking their 12th studio album and first since 2023’s But Here We Are. The group will kick off a European tour in June before launching a North American run Aug. 4 in Toronto. The trek will wrap Sept. 26 in Las Vegas, with Queens of the Stone Age and Mannequin Pussy providing support on most dates.
