Britney Spears has been charged with misdemeanor DUI after she was arrested last month.
The pop star, 44, was officially charged with one count of misdemeanor DUI on Thursday, April 30. Britney pulled over by California Highway Patrol officers on a Southern California freeway and was arrested on suspicion of DUI on March 4. Britney’s arraignment is scheduled for Monday (May 4) morning in Ventura County Superior Court. Due to the misdemeanor-level charge, she is not required to attend the arraignment.
Britney recently voluntarily check herself into rehab following the incident, the news was announced on April 12. According to PEOPLE, Officials from the Ventura County D.A.’s Office said Britney will likely be offered a “wet reckless,” which is a plea bargain that allows a person to plead guilty to reckless driving involving alcohol and/or drugs instead and be placed on probation for 12 months while receiving credit for any time spent in custody.
The individual is also mandated to complete a DUI class and pay state-mandated fines and fees.
Officials told the outlet that a resolution with that plea bargain is “common,” especially when the defendant “demonstrates self-motivation to address underlying issues through rehabilitation or a drug and alcohol treatment program.”
