King Charles and Queen Camilla’s latest state visit to the US was “hell on Earth for Prince Harry,” according to a royal commentator. The monarch and his wife spent four days in America this week, but Charles did not meet with his estranged son.
The Duke of Sussex has resided in Montecito, California, since his dramatic exit from the Royal Family in 2020. Charles and Camilla participated in numerous engagements across Washington, New York and Virginia before departing the US.
Mr Trump is understood not to be particularly fond of the Duke, with reports suggesting he asked British visitors this week whether they could take him back.
A royal expert now claims the King meeting with Mr Trump in front of cameras would not have gone down well with Harry, reports The Express.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield told Sky News Australia in jest, “I think one of the requirements for engaging with the real royals this week was being employed.”
She continued, “In all seriousness, my Harry sources told me that between President Trump and the sea of journalists, two of Harry’s defined enemies…that room was Harry’s idea of hell on Earth.”
The Express US spoke to passerbys in Washingon DC who thought it was disheartening that Charles and Harry weren’t able to spend time together while the king was in the United States.
“I think that’s awful, honestly,” Devin Ellis, a nursing student from Dallas visiting the Capitol, told Daily Express US. “I think that a parent should be able to see their child and their extended family. So I really hate that for him.”
Washington, D.C. local Michael Sebastiani said, “I’ve been through a lot with my own family, so I understand it on one level. But it’s just really kind of sad.”
The King and Queen expressed that they have left a piece of their heart behind in the United States in a message to the American people.
Charles and Camilla’s four-day state visit to the US concluded on Thursday with an overwhelmingly positive reception from President Donald Trump, who lifted tariffs on Scottish whisky. In a heartfelt social media post, the royal couple expressed their gratitude, stating, “Farewell and thank you for the warmth of your welcome and the kind support you gave us throughout our first visit to the US as King and Queen, in this, your special anniversary year.
“We leave a piece of our (heart emoji) behind and take a little of yours back home with us. Until the next time… God Bless America.”
