The architect’s new show, Dermot Bannon’s Celebrity Super Spaces, started airing last week and he admitted that he was intimidated while sharing the screen with those huge names

Dermot Bannon has admitted that he was terrified to film with some of Ireland’s biggest stars for his new series.
Dermot Bannon‘s Celebrity Super Spaces kicked off last week and sees the TV architect getting a peek into some impressive celebrity pads.
Some of the huge names included in the show are Vogue Williams, Joanne McNally, Clodagh McKenna and Aiden Gillen.
Dermot isn’t used to sharing the screen with other big names and he said it worried him during filming.
“In fact, I was really intimidated,” he told RSVP Live. “Normally when I do Room To Improve and things like that, I’m the architect. But for the likes of Vogue Williams, Joanne McNally, Clodagh McKenna… I had butterflies in my stomach. I was a little bit terrified.
“Aiden Gillen is a huge star, I still see John Boy [character from Love/Hate] standing there with a gun to my head. I don’t see any of the houses or meet the homeowners beforehand, I meet them for the first time on camera. A lot of the time I’m left sitting out on the doorstep for half an hour while they go in with the cameras, the mics, get the lighting set up and whatever.
“Then I’m told, right, you can come in and by that stage the tension has built up so much it’s horrendous. So if anything, I was intimidated because I’d never met any of them before. I don’t know if they were intimidated by me, but I was definitely intimidated by them.”
Dermot has gotten to see some amazing homes, but he has one particular celebrity on his hit list if there were to be a second series.
“It’s people who’ve done something that’s a little bit unusual,” he said. “It’s a design show. So the likes of Dave Moore from Today FM, he has created a snore room in his house and he is really hands on. He lives in a really regular house, but he has done these really cool things with sliding doors, and he’s done it all himself and built it all himself. He would be an ideal candidate.
“A well-known person would be great, but it’s more someone who has embraced and done things themselves and designed it. It’s not just a nosey around somebody’s house.”
The big talk on everyone’s lips is the Late Late Show and who would be good for the job should Patrick Kielty step back. Having met so many celebs over filming, does he have anyone in mind who could take over?
“The Late Late Show is difficult,” he mused. “For instance, I think Joanne McNally could quite easily do a Graham Norton type show. But I don’t know if she would be able to handle the heavyweight stuff on the Late Late. It’s a difficult one because you have to go from darkness to light to shade all of the time, keep it refreshing and attract stars to it.”
Having been a regular guest on the Late Late Show himself, he joked that if the “money was right” he’d consider the job.
