Selma Blair revealed that she plans to return to the Met Gala one day amid her battle with multiple sclerosis.
Blair, 53, told US Weekly, “One day I will be back at the Met [Gala], because I love fashion.” The Hollywood actress added that she “love[s] wardrobes,” which are one of her “passion[s].” She last attended the prestigious fashion event in 2009, when she wore a Marc Jacobs dress.
Blair continued, “I used to be a big Met Gala attendee. I haven’t attended in many years, but I have wonderful memories of it.” She recalled her first time attending fashion’s most exciting night with Iranian designer Behnaz Sarafpour.
“I went a couple years with Chanel and more recently, I think, with Marc Jacobs, but that was probably 20 years ago,” she added.
Blair’s remarks come after she stated that she was “feeling really better this last year and I’m back at work and doing things” in 2025. She also revealed that she was “truly in remission” and “actually [has] the stamina and energy” to go out.
She announced in October 2018 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, a chronic autoimmune disease.
Taking to Instagram, Blair wrote that she had to share her “deepest gratitude” to “brilliant” Netflix costumer Allisa Swanson. “She carefully gets my legs in my pants, pulls my tops over my head, buttons my coats and offers her shoulder to steady myself. I have #multiplesclerosis,” shared Blair.
The event has garnered backlash as Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez, serve as primary sponsors and honorary co-chairs. The couple’s involvement in the Met Gala led to flyers popping up around New York City, condemning Bezos, 62. The posters call for a boycott of the “Bezos Met Gala.”
“There’s no dressing it up. Met Gala chair Jeff Bezos avoids tax, enables ICE, and backs Trump. Don’t let him get away with it,” reads one of the posters. Another features the phrase “brought to you by worker exploitation” with a water bottle filled with urine on the red carpet. A third shows a tear gas canister on the carpet with “bought to you by the firm that powers ICE” written below.
