Shane recommends: New England underground miscreants Coma Witch, less than a year removed from releasing their monstrous debut in The End Of Forgiveness, have fully lessened every semblance of sonic clemency with “Imprecation Engine”. More taps, more panic chords, more bass, more titanium snare, and a hellacious mix of gutteral, black metal, and sadboy vocals to boot; their latest entry is a culmination of the dissonant sadism they etched into the revival space last October, only to be amplified six-hundred and seventeen-fold. Coma Witch, motherfucker.
Pillow Fort – Codename Kids Next Year (Single)

Dobbin recommends: UK DIY emo vets Pillow Fort have been hard at work on the UK’s gig circuit, hosting and touring hard since their 2022 and 2023 EPs. After a long time in the studio their first return is single “Codename Kids Next Year”, emphasising speedy turns, dynamics, and noodly riffs to lift and depress the soul in equal measure. Ryan Crick’s vocals have never been better, completing a perfect burning-heart emo track.

Jack recommends: Keeping up their trend of releasing nothing but heavy bangers, spill. returns with “just for show“, effortlessly flirting between melodic hardcore and math-laden metalcore. In just over three minutes, vocalist Hilary Shanks delivers a harrowing narrative, with anguish and despair audible in every word. “I knew I was never enough” punctuates a crushing breakdown, accompanied by some of her heaviest vocals to date. Given the quality of the singles from this project, hopefully we’ll see an EP or LP on the horizon before long.
