There has been a new update in the search for Nancy Guthrie.
A prowler wearing a mask and gloves has been captured on video in Nancy Guthrie’s neighborhood in Tucson, Arizona, as cops continue to hunt for the 84-year-old’s suspected kidnapper, who was filmed in similar clothing items.
The mystery individual pulled up to a home in Nancy’s neighborhood in a grey pickup truck last Wednesday night (April 29), according to Ring camera footage obtained by News 4 Tucson. It comes after it was revealed that Nancy’s close friends are “keeping quiet.”
As per the footage, the masked thief stole plants from the front porch before driving away.
The incident came three months after the mother of NBC’s Today show host Savannah Guthrie vanished from her house in the Catalina Foothills neighborhood.
The footage has since circulated among the normally safe, quiet community, with neighbors noting chilling similarities between the prowler and Nancy’s suspected kidnapper, locals told News 4.
The suspect was also caught on doorbell camera footage wearing a mask, gloves and dark colored clothing. Police seemed to be on the lookout for a large, grey vehicle in the hunt for the grandmother.
Pima County Sheriff’s deputies pulled over two suspicious vehicles in their initial search, and detectives seized a gray Range Rover from one neighbor’s garage.
Catalina Foothills had a reputation as a safe, secure community even before law enforcement began patrolling every street and cul-de-sac, making the recent incident rather worrying for locals.
“It is someone walking on your property late at night, uninvited. It might be a small crime, but committing a crime, and it is disturbing,” Jeff Lamie told News 4.
Catalina Foothills is full of secluded homes connected by winding, desert roads, making it particularly difficult to track the movements of Nancy’s possible kidnapper.
In the first weeks of the investigation, which will reach its 90th day on Friday, May 8, authorities went door-to-door looking for security camera footage that may have caught a glimpse of the kidnapper.
They also rounded up at least 16 black gloves to test for genetic evidence, but most of them turned out to be discarded by the searchers themselves, and none yielded a DNA match to a suspect.
