Usher’s Upcoming Tour Will Integrate An Internship Program To Provide Young Adults With Hands-On Experience In The Industry

Usher is paving the way for the youth to access opportunities in the entertainment industry.

As previously reported by AFROTECH, Usher has been intentional about supporting youth from the start of his career. Five years after the launch of his self-titled album, he founded the nonprofit Usher’s New Look®, driven by a desire to ensure children have greater access to resources than he did. His mother, Jonnetta Patton, and Shawn H. Wilson are the co-founders. Wilson also serves as president and chief executive officer of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Detroit (BGCGD), which has been instrumental in several efforts to empower the next generation.

™

In December 2025, BGCGD announced a $1 million investment from Usher and Big Sean in a Detroit incubator that prepares youth ages 14 to 24 for careers in fashion, film, television, music production, AI, 3D, and other immersive technologies.

Now, Usher is leveraging his upcoming R&B Tour to prepare young people for careers in entertainment. The tour begins June 26 and will make stops in cities including Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, Houston, New Orleans, and more, according to an Instagram post.

Entertainment Industry Club

The North American R&B Tour will pave the way for the Entertainment Industry Club: Live Touring Edition, an internship program launched in partnership with Usher’s New Look®, and BGCGD. The workforce development initiative will accept participants ages 18 and older from Detroit and Atlanta, according to a press release shared with AFROTECH

Those accepted must complete pre-tour training on professional standards, safety, and role-specific skills, according to the press release. Additionally, interns will be required to partner with local Boys & Girls Clubs to lead career workshops, training sessions, and peer-to-peer learning experiences.

“The live touring industry is a multi-billion dollar global business — yet access to the entertainment trades remains limited,” said Wilson in the press release. “Together, we’re changing that by placing young professionals on one of the most historic tours and turning access into real pathways to lasting careers.”

Usher commented:

“At Usher’s New Look, we’ve always believed talent is everywhere, but access is not. This program is opening doors and putting young professionals in a position to learn, grow, and work inside the entertainment trades. It’s about giving them a real opportunity.”

The initiative will also expand access for youth at local Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide through Spark Sessions: Making of the Tour, which offers a behind-the-scenes insight into the planning, production, and business of a live touring experience.

How To Apply

To apply for the internship, you can visit UshersNewLook.org and click the Entertainment Industry Club section. Applicants are encouraged to apply early.
