It’s not all official visits and state dinners, for the young constituents of the British royal family, public engagements are few and far between—and usually way more fun.
That was certainly the case this week, when Princess Catherine and Prince William’s three children—Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8—fulfilled their royal duties in the most adorable way, by naming the newest addition to the Australia Zoo.
“I am very proud to announce that my friends, the Wales family, helped us to name our beautiful new joey!” Robert Irwin, the famous zookeeper and conservationist (and son to the late Crocodile Hunter star Steve Irwin), shared in an Instagram clip this afternoon.
The children’s name selection was revealed in the caption of Irwin and the Wales family’s joint post. It read: “Introducing Cwtch, the newest member of the Australia Zoo family, a gorgeous eastern grey kangaroo joey. Cwtch, which means ‘cuddle’ in Welsh, was named by Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.”
In the video, Irwin explains why Cwtch is the “perfect” name for a joey kangaroo, saying: “’Cause at this age, they love a cuddle, and they spend most of their time inside that pouch with their mum.”
“Look out for Cwtch on your next visit to @australiazoo, and support their vital conservation efforts to protect Australia’s wildlife and wild places,” Irwin added.
This may have been a small step into the realm of royal responsibilities for George, Charlotte, and Louis, but it seems to fair to say the Wales kids knocked it out of the park.
