Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas‘ new musical comedy film is yet to be released, but early reviews have already surfaced. Sean Boelman of FandomWire deemed the film’s “heart” its strongest element. He also said that it was more humorous than director John Carney’s previous filmography. Further, he praised Rudd’s acting, noting he brought “an effortless charm to his lead role.” Boelman also commended co-lead Nick Jonas’ performance, calling it “likely one of the best in his career.”

However, not all critics were impressed by Power Ballad. Slant Magazine‘s Chris Barsanti remarked it “merely hums when it should soar.” He added that, like the tense dynamic between Rudd and Jonas’ characters, it “never finds the right groove.”
