Mercer Island, Wash. — A new pilot program by the Seattle Men’s Chorus is using music and student storytelling to tackle the issue of bullying against the LGBTQ+ community.
The chorus brought the program and its important message to students at two schools in the Mercer Island School District this week to show how allyship can help save lives. The gatherings included a performance by Chorus members of select songs from its new “Wicked Wiz of Oz” concert, which is currently playing at area venues through May 16, 2026.
And the program will be featured on an upcoming student-hosted podcast later this month. The podcast, which is part of the award-winning Coping 101 series from C89.5 and Seattle Children’s, is scheduled for May 25, 2026, in advance of Pride Month. It will feature interviews with Mercer Island High School students who attended the program.
ARC Seattle co-anchor Steve McCarron spoke with Paul Caldwell, Artistic Director of the Seattle Men’s Chorus, and Gavin Muhlfelder, a Nathan Hale High School student and member of the student-led c89.5 podcast.
