Melendi is once again at the center of the Spanish music scene, but this time not just because of a new album. The presentation of his record ‘Pop Rock’ at the legendary La Riviera in Madrid became more than just a musical event—it was an opportunity for the artist to open up about how his life and attitude toward his profession have changed over a quarter of a century on stage. The singer, long a symbol of a generation, surprised the audience with an unexpectedly honest admission about aging and the changes that aren’t always visible from the outside.

Generations at concerts

In the hall, where longtime fans and young people alike gathered, Melendi did not hide: after more than twenty years, his music has become a family tradition for many. He joked that autographs are now requested not just for themselves, but for grandmothers and aunts, and new generations listen to his songs thanks to their parents. Such a transition from a youth idol to a family artist is rare even on the Spanish stage, where tastes usually change rapidly.

A personal confession

Melendi did not avoid talking about changes in his own life. According to Divinity, the artist now lives in Madrid with his wife Julia Nakamatsu and their three daughters, and his everyday life has become much calmer. Jokingly, he shared that he now wakes up at night more often than before, but still feels young at heart. At the same time, the singer admits: his appearance changes, but his passion for music and the desire to share it with the public have only grown stronger.

Rethinking success

Melendi frankly admitted that over the years on stage, much of the former sharpness has faded, but something new has emerged—a deep understanding of music and respect for his own path. He doesn’t seek to be at the center of trends; instead, he prefers to share his success with loved ones and support young artists who are just starting out. According to him, it’s important not only to gain recognition, but also to help those inspired by his work.

Music without pretension

Unlike many of his colleagues, Melendi does not pose as an industry reformer. He emphasizes that his task is to make music for people, so that at least one person can feel better because of a song. This approach to creativity sets him apart from the loud statements of other stars. In this sense, his position reminds us that sometimes it is humility and honesty that become the main reasons for discussion in show business.

A look at the new generation

The singer does not hide that his era has now given way to new stars. He speaks respectfully about the talents of young artists, noting that entirely different names are now at the top. In particular, Melendi highlights the phenomenon of Rosalía, stressing that he knows how to admire other people’s success and not repeat past mistakes, when he himself did not receive support from the industry. Such a view on the changing of generations and his own place in the history of music sounds especially relevant against the backdrop of other high-profile stories in Spanish show business, for example, when the couple’s joint appearance at the Love of Lesbian concert sparked new discussions about their private and public lives.

Melendi’s story is not just about music, but also about growing up, embracing change, and managing to stay true to himself despite shifting trends and tastes. His honesty and self-irony have put his name back in the spotlight, and his new album provides an opportunity to revisit his roots and reconsider his own path.
