A new era for singer-songwriter Bea Miller is here, as she unveils her latest punk-inspired pop-rock track, “depressed on the internet.”
Miller recently signed with Republic Records, and the latest single marks her first solo release in about three years.
Though full of spunk and punk energy, “depressed on the internet” finds Miller in a deeply vulnerable position. More than anything, it serves as a self-aware commentary on depression — shaped by the agony of an online presence and the way mental health can quickly turn into internet content.
She sings, “I’m another girl depressed on thе internet / Obsessеd with the sound of herself.” Leaning heavily into the ironic sarcasm Miller has become known for, she realizes she may be struggling mentally. Instead of dealing with it privately, she publicly performs it, ultimately becoming desensitized to how sadness can become part of your identity online.
It’s raw, honest and plays into the irony of laying your heart out online without any real self-awareness, marking a strong return for Miller and the first single off her forthcoming, currently untitled third album.
