Megyn Kelly once again turned on President Donald Trump, especially amid his dwindling support on the war in Iran.

On May 8, she spoke with Tucker Carlson on “The Megyn Kelly Show,” where the pair discussed the current state of the United States’ international affairs. Particularly, they were concerned with the ongoing strain in the Middle East, which only intensified when Trump ordered strikes on Iran.

The Iranian government did not cave immediately to the president’s show of military force, which was allegedly motivated by a desire to prevent the country from obtaining nuclear arms. Nonetheless, Trump insisted the two nations were close to reaching a deal. The public is pessimistic about the war — and so are the two political pundits. It comes after Kelly bashed Trump over ‘inappropriate’ comments by Kimmel.

Carlson pointed out that the ongoing confusion over the war’s status had a real-world impact on the stock market. “I noticed that every time Axios announces an imminent end to the war, a lot of people make huge bets on oil futures right before it comes out and presumably make a lot of money on that, and then it never happens,” he said.

However, neither Carlson nor Kelly was sure about the continued reporting. In fact, Kelly admitted she couldn’t trust information coming from the president’s mouth.

“I have no idea whether there’s a 14-point deal or not. None whatsoever. I don’t trust a word President Trump says about this anymore. He’s told us 31 times that the Iran war is over, okay,” she said. “Only to then tweet about how we’re going to bomb them into oblivion.”

The conflict in Iran began in February 2026 when the U.S. military executed Operation Epic Fury, a joint strike on the nation with Israel. In response, Iran sent missiles at Israel, and warnings of a strike on American military bases spread. Moreover, Israel carried out cyberattacks on Iran’s networks.

In March, the strikes only intensified. The Strait of Hormuz was closed by Iran, which strained the world’s supply chain. Trump called on other nations to help secure the strait.

Trump began claiming negotiations were seeming positive in mid-March, pausing planned strikes on an Iranian power plant. However, the Iranian government denied his claim. Trump once again claimed Iran was “begging” to close a deal — and he insisted the Iranian government was lying due to fear of their own people.

He wrote on Truth Social, “The United States of America is in serious discussions with A NEW, AND MORE REASONABLE, REGIME to end our Military Operations in Iran. Great progress has been made but, if for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘Open for Business,’ we will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!), which we have purposefully not yet ‘touched.’ This will be in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47-year Reign of Terror.'”

Trump’s insistence that peace was on the horizon continued through April, met yet again with denial from Iran. On April 15, he also claimed he was immediately and permanently reopening the strait. However, it is largely still in progress, with work to be done.
