HAMILTON COUNTY, Tenn. — A new place to climb is opening up on Mowbray Mountain in Hamilton County.

Tucked into the woods above Soddy-Daisy, a stretch of rock is drawing attention from climbers and outdoor groups.
The site, known as Three Gorges Farms, sits on land being developed into a gated community, but the focus this weekend is on the rock itself.

Organizers hosted a climbing and music event Saturday, with a suggested $15 donation going to the Southeastern Climbers Coalition.
The nonprofit works to preserve climbing areas across the Southeast, often partnering with private landowners to open land that would otherwise be closed.
That is the case here.
“This is what we do,” the coalition says, working with landowners to keep access available for climbers.
Saturday’s event includes bouldering, hiking and a concert overlooking the gorge.

The land is not open all the time.
But organizers say there will be opportunities for the public to visit.
We will have open gate days from time to time,” said Katie Dishman with the Three Gorges development. “Where you guys can go out and explore the land and go climbing and hiking.
She says those events are meant to bring people together.

“We love to see friends and families join together in the neighborhood and enjoy nature,” Dishman said.
For visitors, it is a chance to see a part of Hamilton County many people may not know exists.

A scenic ridge, a wall of rock, and for now, a limited window to explore it.
