Prince William has insisted that he does not mind which teams his children support, although he conceded last year that they would “probably” support Villa as they follow the team so closely.
If any of them do plough their own furrow, it is likely to be Prince Louis, eight, who last year was said to lay claim to five different football teams.
Prince William, patron of the Football Association, has followed Aston Villa since he was a schoolboy and is regularly pictured in the stands, where it is not unknown for him to cheer so loudly he loses his voice.
Despite having no obvious links to the Midlands, he has explained that he did not want to follow the crowd.
“A long time ago at school, I got into football big time,” he said in 2015. “I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United fans or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams.
“I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.”
