The Strokes have returned with a brand new single called ‘Falling out of Love,’ and it seems like the rock band is not really stopping with the auto-tune anytime soon. The track arrives just over a month after the band announced a new album called Reality Awaits, the long-awaited follow-up project to 2020’s The New Abnormal.
With Reality Awaits scheduled for release later next month, ‘Falling out of Love‘ serves as the second single off the upcoming album and the fourth track on the project’s nine-song tracklist.
The Strokes Showcase Their More Gentle Side On “Falling out of Love”
Trying to come to terms with heartbreak, The Strokes opt for a much more gentle and slow vibe for their new song, especially when compared to ‘Going Shopping,’ the lead single released last month alongside the album announcement. While ‘Going Shopping‘ took an upbeat approach, ‘Falling out of Love‘ showcases the band sonically relaxing for a bit, dealing with, as the song title suggests, falling out of love with someone and accepting their inevitable loneliness.
However, one element that both the singles share with each other is the band’s heavy use of auto-tune, which looks like something that The Strokes are going to fully embrace throughout the runtime of Reality Awaits.
‘Falling out of Love‘ is also much longer than ‘Going Shopping‘ and is set to be the longest track on the album, running for more than six minutes as lead singer Julian Casablancas delivers sentimental vocals over easy-going guitars and drums. “But I’m fine for the first time,” sings Casablancas as he gets over the denial phase of a breakup and finally moves on to that of acceptance.
Announcing Reality Awaits with a short teaser featuring a Nissan 300ZX from the 80s and the words “In The Flesh, It’s Even Sexier” last month, The Strokes will release their new Rick Rubin-produced album on June 26.
