No marriage is perfect, and celebrity relationships are no different. Carrie Underwood and her husband, Mike Fisher, have had some issues in their marriage as well, and an insider recently revealed “the biggest struggle” that they are facing right now in a new interview.
The American Idol winner-turned-judge has been married to former pro hockey player Mike Fisher since 2010, and together they share two sons: Isaiah, 11, and Jacob, 7. And while she enjoys performing and working, she has to balance those desires with the needs of her “traditional” marriage, a source told Us Weekly on May 13. “As supportive as he is of her career, he’s a guy who wants normalcy,” the insider told the outlet about Fisher. “They are a very traditional couple living a not-so-traditional life.”

According to the source, they’ve been going through some challenges as they figure out a balance to their lives and careers. “That has been the biggest struggle they have faced in their relationship, balancing their careers and paths, and letting each other pursue the things that make them happy while supporting each other and staying grounded as a couple,” the insider continued. “In the earlier years of their marriage, there was a lot of compromising.”
As for now, Underwood considers her “real life” to be her life on the farm in Tennessee, where she lives with her husband and kids. In the interview with Us Weekly, the “Out of That Truck” singer revealed, “When I’m away [for work], I’m like Cinderella at the ball,” Underwood told Us. “I’m a princess, and it’s great. And then I come home, and I’m covered in dirt [and] poop. It’s just the polar opposite. I’m cleaning up after everybody and barefoot in the kitchen.” She added, “I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Despite how she praises life at home (yes, even covered in poop!), sources say that’s not the whole story. Instead, Underwood reportedly likes to stay at home to make her marriage smoother. Sources told Star on May 1 that Underwood is ignoring opinions about pushing forward in her career. “[She] will do things at her own pace and no one’s going to pressure her,” the insider revealed.

“Plus, staying at home more has done wonders for her marriage and if it means turning down work to keep it that way, then it’s a small price to pay,” the source added.
In the past, insiders have revealed that Fisher can resent how much his wife works. A source told SheFinds in Nov. 2023 about Fisher, “He’s very traditional, and while he loves that Carrie has a career, he believes her role as a wife and a mother should be a priority.”
Obviously, Underwood hasn’t stepped back in her career since those comments, but if current sources are to be believed, Underwood has put a pause on pursuing new projects and enjoys going home to help keep her marriage and family intact.
