Reality Television is one genre where makers always try to spice things up by introducing something unique. For example, in 2023, The Bachelor premiered a spin-off series, titled The Golden Bachelor, which featured senior contestants. By doing so, the series managed to excite its existing fan base with something distinctive, while bringing a whole new wave of viewers into The Bachelor universe. Now, it seems that fans of another popular reality TV show want to see something similar, and that TV series is none other than Survivor.
But is it possible? Well, host Jeff Probst feels that there is one issue that might stop the makers from doing a golden version of Survivor.
While discussing the possibility of a Golden Survivor on his podcast, the host of the long-running reality TV series shared his thoughts on the idea and noted that a golden version of Survivor might be a little difficult because it needs a lot of physical stamina and endurance from its contestants.
He said, “Here’s the truth as I see it. Based on the number of people over, let’s say 50, who apply and who we believe are interesting and compelling enough to be on the show, and we believe can truly handle the intense physicality, I think if you just limited it to 50-and-over casting, it would be difficult to do two times per year. You’re looking at 40 people. I just don’t think it would work, personally.”
Moreover, he indicated that people of the same age would remove some of the interesting dynamics that have been seen in the previous editions of the reality competition.
Although fans would love to see The Golden Survivor on their TV screens, Probst’s comments remind us that it won’t be easy for the makers to come forward with it. Nonetheless, it would be fascinating to see people over 50 competing in an action-packed show like Survivor, which will not only test their endurance but also their strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
