Live Nation and First Avenue Entertainment have announced plans for a new 5,500-capacity indoor music venue in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood.

Dubbed the SoDo Ballroom, the new venue will be built as an addition to the existing Boxyard event space, directly across the street from T-Mobile Park along 1st Avenue South, and neighboring Hatback Bar & Grill. Live Nation describes its vision for the venue as a way to “support artists at a key stage in their careers — between theaters and arenas.” The venue will also operate alongside Victory Hall, which will remain in place to serve as a venue lobby and special events space for gamedays.

“We are enhancing the city’s ability to attract even more major tours to the Pacific Northwest while supporting the next generation of performers as they grow,” said Live Nation regional president Jeff Trisler.

Although Seattle is far from short on music venues, there’s a sizable hole in the city’s midsize market that the SoDo Ballroom could very well end up filling. While WaMu Theatre can accommodate as many as 9,000 people, the next largest capacity option for most touring DJs is the Showbox SoDo, which caps out around 1,800. Other midsize alternatives like the Paramount (3,000 capacity), the Moore (1,800), and the Neptune (1,000) are all mixed-use venues that are often booked for comedians, plays and musicals, while the Showbox Market (1,100 capacity) has substantially scaled back its DJ bookings in recent years.

The SoDo Ballroom is currently scheduled to open sometime in 2029. For more details on the venue you can check out its official website here.
