Cheyenne Bryant is pushing back after facing growing online scrutiny over her credentials and use of the “Dr.” title.
The Teen Mom: Family Reunion coproducer and life coach, 43, recently sparked backlash after appearing on The Joe Budden Podcast and admitting that she’s not a licensed therapist.
“I started off as a marriage child therapist about 18 years ago before I obtained my doctor degree in counseling psychology,” Bryant said in the April 27 episode. “Once I became a doctor of psychology, I transitioned from a therapist to a psychology expert in private practice and so I no longer practice under a license.”
Bryant also argued that professional licenses are primarily needed for insurance billing purposes.
The clip quickly circulated online and critics began questioning both her qualifications and whether audiences were being misled by her branding.
In response to the controversy, Bryant defended herself during an interview with Fox 5 DC, insisting she had “earned” the title legitimately.

“My proof isn’t something that I have to prove to individuals,” she explained. “My proof is already in my credentials, my degrees, and also, more than just my title, it’s in how effective I’ve been.”
The wellness guru continued, “I’ve earned the title. I have multiple degrees, and I’m not going to prove anything to anybody.”
According to her official bio, Bryant earned dual degrees in psychology and Pan African studies from California State University Northridge before pursuing a doctorate at Argosy University. However, the school shuttered all of its campuses in March 2019.
The backlash intensified after online critics began questioning whether or not Bryant’s doctorate credentials could be independently verified after Argosy’s closures. Others criticized her comments about licensing requirements and argued that therapy licenses exist to provide accountability within the mental health field.
