Despite being the most-nominated artist of the night, Megan Moroney confirmed that she would not be attending the 2026 Academy of Country Music Awards.
A few hours before the annual awards show on Sunday, May 17, the country music star took to Instagram to explain why she would be skipping this year, which is hosted by Canadian songstress Shania Twain. The 28-year-old hitmaker revealed the real reason she would be missing the ACM Awards, which has nothing to do with her busy schedule as a chart-topping country artist.
Megan will be missing the Academy of Country Music Awards to be the maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding.
On Sunday, she posted a photo of herself and her friend wearing matching Bride and Bridesmaid track suits with the caption, “I’m honored to be nominated tonight at @acmawards & I’m rooting on all my friends from afar!”
She continued, “I’m out of the country this week on MOH duty to get my best friend married. I [heart] you guys and can’t wait to see y’all in columbus! Counting down the days.”
The Man on the Moon hitmaker is set to head out on her Cloud 9 tour, which kicks off in Columbus, Ohio, on May 29 and wraps up in Nashville on August 22, before heading to Europe.
This year, Megan leads the ACM Awards with a whopping nine nominations, including Entertainer of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, Single of the Year (6 Months Later), Song of the Year (Am I Okay?), Artist-Songwriter of the Year, Visual Media of the Year (6 Months Later), and Music Event of the Year (You Had to Be There” with Kenny Chesney).
The singer-songwriter previously took home New Female Artist of the Year in 2024 and has been nominated seven times before being the top-nominated artist this year.
Miranda Lambert follows behind Megan with eight nods, while Ella Langley and Lainey Wilson have seven each. Lainey, who won Entertainer of the Year last year, will kick off the live broadcast with a performance of her most recent single, Can’t Sit Still. The show will close out with a performance by Blake Shelton.
The show will also feature live performances from over a dozen stars, including Kasey Musgraves, Miranda Lambert, Zach Top, Cody Johnson, Kane Brown, the Red Clay Strays, Thomas Rhett, Jordan Davis, Dan + Shay, Avery Anna, Carter Faith, Lee Ann Womack, Little Big Town, Parker McCollum, and Tucker Wetmore.
The Academy of Country Music Awards 2026 are broadcast live and streaming on Prime Video on Sunday, May 17, at 8 p.m. EST from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
