The King has been warned that he risks “losing credibility” if he does not meet Jeffrey Epstein’s victims while on a state visit to the US.
Ro Khanna, the Democrat representative who helped to force the release of the Epstein files, has written to His Majesty urging him to meet survivors of the sex offender during his trip to the United States at the end of this month.
On Monday, Buckingham Palace announced that the King and Queen would visit the country to mark the 250th anniversary of American independence. But they will not meet Epstein’s victims because of ongoing police investigations related to Epstein in Britain.
Mr Khanna claimed that the reasoning “has no plausibility, he [the King] is not going to compromise the legal standing. I mean that’s not gonna fly in the United States of America”.
He told Newsnight: “The King has a clear choice. He’s either going to listen to a bunch of lackeys and take a legalistic way out and have the monarchy have its heyday with Donald Trump obsessed about it, and then start to lose credibility with the new generation in America.
“Or he can do the right thing, meet with these survivors, and actually show that the British royalty and monarchy have some value in the modern world.”
