I’m not especially worried about the offense. I’ve been watching things since April 20 when it looked like things were starting to turn. That’s now half the season, 22 games. They’re hitting .221/.339/.437 as an offense and scoring five runs per game over an extended period. They’re hitting a reasonable number of home runs, walking, etc. One rough game doesn’t concern me on that front. They do need to drop Salvador Perez in the lineup, which is sort of odd to say after a two-hit game and a decent series, but that hasn’t changed.
They also need to start treating Vinnie Pasquantino like every bit the platoon player that Jac Caglianone is. Neither should play against lefties if you’re actually trying to win, but Pasquantino is hitting .125/.176/.167 against them, which is good for a wRC+ of -8. No, that dash in front of the eight wasn’t a typo. He’s below zero. Being this bad is new, but his struggles with lefties aren’t. He had a 63 wRC+ against them last year, and it was 81 in 2024. He’s just getting progressively worse. He was at 96 in 2023 and actually was 148 in 2022.
