Helena Christensen Styles Roberto Cavalli for Cannes Film Festival

Helena Christensen took runway inspiration from Roberto Cavalli‘s latest collection for her red carpet look at the “Amarga Navidad,” or “Bitter Christmas,” premiere during the 2026 Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday night in Cannes, France.

Christensen’s dress hailed from the fall 2026 ready-to-wear collection, which featured an array of designs in an exclusively black color palette. Christensen’s gown merged sheer design with a sensual spin on the Gothic inspiration of the collection.

The sleeveless dress featured thin straps and a plunging, scalloped neckline. Sheer fabric featured at the waist and skirt of the design, with patchwork adding an extra dose of edgy quality to the overall look.

Roberto Cavalli’s fall 2026 ready-to-wear collection made its runway debut as part of Milan Fashion Week in February 2026. Curated by creative director of more than five years Fausto Puglisi, the collection pivoted from Cavalli’s animal prints and colorful designs for a subdued assortment.

The designer “took a Gothic turn for fall with a mostly black collection that was filled with tough leather and croc cropped jackets, embroidered tulle and extra-long pleated sleeves on dresses that channeled Morticia Addams,” Samantha Conti wrote in WWD’s review of the collection.

“This time I wanted to design a collection that was New Romantic and dark. But this kind of dark is very festive, sensual feminine — and tough,” Puglisi said of the collection, per Conti’s review. “You can still see Cavalli through the texture. You can see every Cavalli detail through this dark lens.”

“Black came in all shapes and sizes, from the cropped leather biker-style jackets with a croc pattern to the glossy, roomy trousers to the bouncy ballerina skirts and multitiered dresses made with different fabric textures.”

The 2026 Cannes Film Festival kicked off on May 12 and concludes on Saturday. The 79th edition of the festival will include films like “Fatherland,” starring Oscar-nominated actress Sandra Hüller, “Full Phil,” starring Kristen Stewart and filmmaker James Gray’s “Paper Tiger.” Demi Moore, Ruth Negga and filmmaker Park Chan-wook serve on the 2026 Cannes Film Festival jury.
