Wedding bells might not be in Mindy Kaling’s future — and the comedian is sharing that she’s totally ok with that.
The Running Point creator, 46, recently spoke with Bustle for a new feature and mentioned that when she was younger, her two biggest goals were to work on Saturday Night Live and to get married.
“Professionally, I always wanted to write on Saturday Night Live and be a cast member on Saturday Night Live,” she shared. “Personally, I wanted to be married. Neither of those things happened.”

When told that these things could still happen, Kaling shared that she wasn’t sure if she needed them in her life anymore.
“That’s interesting,” she replied. “Those things could happen, but I think I don’t necessarily need them anymore, maybe, which is a nice feeling.”
Kaling is very private about her dating life and hasn’t publicly shared much. Notably, she dated close friend B.J. Novak on and off from 2004 to 2007 while working on The Office together. He is also the godfather to her three kids — Katherine “Kit,” 8, Spencer, 5, and Anne, 2.
In the same interview, the Never Have I Ever creator spoke about her relationship with Novak. “He really is in our family, and I love talking about him because my kids adore him, and he’s such a huge part of our life,” said Kaling. “But I also know that it gives people a lot of ideas.”

“If I was watching it from the outside, I would have the same questions and the same reactions,” she admitted.
Kaling and Novak even joked about their “will they or won’t they” dynamic in September 2022 while presenting at the 2022 Emmy Awards. At the time, the two were commenting on the fact that TV shows today are no longer required to do 20-plus episodes a season.
“We came out doing network sitcoms, 22 episodes a year,” said Kaling as Novak continued, “And that show, that would take up your whole life. No time for other projects.”
Looking at Novak, Kaling added: “No time for a social life. You had no choice but to form insanely complicated relationships with your costars.”
