For the second time this month, the Red Sox swept an AL Central opponent on the road. Two weeks after brooming the Detroit Tigers in Motown, Boston did the same to the Kansas City Royals in KC.
As expected, the Red Sox did it with their elite pitching and defense, holding the Royals to just five runs in the three games. Their bats also came alive with 35 hits, including several big ones by Jarren Duran.
Duran had a huge series for Boston, driving in six of the team’s 14 runs and putting his slow start behind him. After putting Tuesday’s game away with his three-run homer in the ninth inning, he delivered another clutch blow in Wednesday’s series finale with a go-ahead two-run shot in the top of the seventh.

The 4-3 lead was enough for the Red Sox’s dominant bullpen, which didn’t allow any runs in 10 1/3 innings against Kansas City.
After winning four of its last five games, Boston is 22-27 heading into Thursday’s off day. The surging Red Sox will look to extend their winning streak on Friday against the Minnesota Twins, who are half a game ahead of them in the wild card race at 23-27.
