A new resource is available for those who love making music. The Music Co-op (TMC) is a network for finding local musicians to collaborate with. Whether you sing, play an instrument or write songs, you are welcome to join, regardless of age or skill level. Membership is free. For more information, call 906-428-2843, email [email protected] or search “The Music Co-op – Delta County” on Facebook.

This month, TMC salutes The Rockin’ Psalms.

There are many Psalms Projects around the globe, but only one Rockin’ Psalms. Based out of Green Bay, Wisconsin, via the Cup O Joy Music Venue, the project has been gifted nearly 70 musicians on 15 albums over the last ten years. Each month, a few of them get together and play two KJV Psalms word for word at the Cup Open Variety Show.

Each year, they record a live show there and distribute it worldwide for audio streaming. 100 percent of the proceeds are donated to the Cup O Joy as all the musicians donate their time and talents to the project. Each performance is unique to the style of musicians as each musician writes their own part. Only the basic chord progression is initially provided.

This entire project idea was gifted to secular recording artist Bobby Glen Rivers in 2016 after finishing his album, “The Gravel Road.” Not knowing what to do with the idea, he consulted his cousin’s husband, Dean LaFlex, who referred him to the Cup O Joy. Owner Jan saw potential in the project as a biblical outreach to secular music fans and allowed it on their monthly open mic show.

Rivers recorded a progression for all 150 Psalms and published those as archetype recordings, which musicians use to formulate their parts. In 2017, he rebranded the recordings under the artist name of The Rockin’ Psalms. The project is organized online by Jim Aho, their former bass player who relocated to Tennessee but still hosts their website RockinPsalms.com to keep the project organized.

According to Rivers, the entire project has been an unexplainable blessing that truly God has led for His purposes. It is not church, it is not a worship band, it is an invitation to God’s word to whoever desires to listen to it, whether you believe or not, according to the band.

Listeners can find their music on The Rockin’ Psalms YouTube channel, the Rockin’ Psalms Facebook page, RockinPsalms.com website or by searching The Rockin’ Psalms at any major online music streaming site.
