Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have a large circle of friends, but reports say some friendships have tailed off in recent years. The couple left the UK for America, moving to Montecito, California, where they now live with their two children – Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Page Six reports that one reason their friendships have dwindled is that some of the couple’s famous pals are also tired of footing the bill for them.
A source told the Daily Mail that this can sometimes be in the form of private jets or paying for events. “They ask for a lot of resources to be spent as they believe it is a privilege to be in their circle,” the source claimed. “They think they are entitled to all the private planes.” The source added of Markle, “She is the cheapest!”
The couple are known for their A-list circle of friends. Several A-listers were part of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s royal wedding at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
From her “Suits” co-stars to her bridesmaid and best friend, stylist and influencer Jessica Mulroney, everyone was present at her big day.
Even other prominent figures such as George and Amal Clooney, David and Victoria Beckham, Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, and actor Idris Elba attended their wedding.
However, according to the Daily Mail, some of these friendships have not lasted.
Oprah Winfrey famously interviewed the Sussexes in 2021, after they stepped back from their royal duties in 2020.
But six years later, the source told the Daily Mail that “they are not as close as they once were.”
A source also revealed Taylor Swift’s selfie with Prince William, Prince George and Princess Charlotte at her concert in London for the Eras Tour in 2024 would have likely rattled the Duchess of Sussex.
The Daily Mail’s Richard Eden highlighted the disparities between William and Kate’s, and Harry and Meghan’s approaches to celebrity networking with the circulating social media image.
He said: “In a way, you could say [Taylor is] paying court to Prince William – whereas with Harry and Meghan, it’s the other way round.”
