July 20 (UPI) — Organizers for the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival have announced an initial lineup.
This year’s Gala and Special Presentations roster will include new films from Pedro Almodóvar, Danny Boyle, Lee Chang-dong, Jesse Eisenberg, Gael García Bernal, Hirokazu Kore-eda, John Madden and Chris Rock.
The 51st annual festival will run Sept. 10 to 20 in Canada. Villeneuve: The Rise of a Legend, a sports biopic directed by Yan Lanouette Turgeon about Canadian racecar driver Gilles Villeneuve, will screen Sept. 19 as the Closing Night Film.
The 2026 lineup includes:
‘I Play Rocky’

The new film from Peter Farrelly (Green Book) stars Anthony Ippolito as a young Sylvester Stallone as it explores the making of Stallone’s 1976 breakout film Rocky.
Also featuring AnnaSophia Robb, Toby Kebbell and Jay Duplass, the movie will open in select theaters Nov. 6 before a wide release Nov. 20.

Amazon MGM Studios released a trailer for the film last week that shows Stallone (Ippolito), who wrote the script for Rocky, convince producers to also let him star in the feature.
‘Misty Green’
The upcoming drama from A24 is written, directed and produced by actor and comedian Chris Rock, who also stars in the film.
Marking Rock’s first feature as a director since Top Five (2014), Misty Green stars Rosalind Eleazar as the title character, an actress who gets a chance at a comeback after reconnecting with someone from her past.
The cast also features Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya and Anna Kendrick.
‘Always Lalisa’
Directed by Sue Kim, the new documentary explores the life and career of Lisa, a Thai singer and actress who skyrocketed to fame as a member of the K-pop girl group Blackpink.
Other titles include Evil Genius, directed by Courteney Cox, Girl Group from Rebel Wilson, Onwards and Sideways by John Madden, The Life and Deaths of Wilson Shedd directed by Tim Blake Nelson and Bitter Christmas by Pedro Almodóvar.
Hombre al agua from Gael García Bernal, Ink by Danny Boyle, Look Back, directed by Hirokazu Kore-eda, Paradise Lost by Yeon Sang-ho, Possible Love from Lee Chang-dong and The Debut by Jesse Eisenberg will also screen.
