Norwegian symphonic black metal outfit Dimmu Borgir released their first new album in eight years today (May 22nd,) “Grand Serpent Rising“. Accompanying it out to the masses is the below music video for the latest focus track from the record, “As Seen In The Unseen“. Dariusz Szermanowicz (Behemoth, Kreator) took up the reins of directing that video.
While the band didn’t have anything extra to offer about this new visual component, they did have the following to say about this record finally arriving. Vocalist Shagrath:
“‘Grand Serpent Rising‘ captures everything Dimmu Borgir has been and become – it’s darker, more brutal, yet melodic and diverse. It sums up all our phases; some songs are heavily inspired by our early years, while others push forward. We’ve made the album more dynamic, with orchestration used more deliberately. The result is a more intense and hard hitting record.”
Guitarist Silenoz went on to add:
“With ‘Grand Serpent Rising‘, we deliberately revisited the spirit and atmosphere that shaped our identity in the early years. We wanted this album to feel like a journey through ruin, rebirth and transcendence. After all these years, the fire still burns stronger than ever – This album is both a reflection and a new awakening for Dimmu Borgir.”
Fans in North America looking to catch the band on their first tour out that way since 2018 can expect to find them sharing stages with Hypocrisy, Suffocation and Hulder this August.
