The AL Central club announced that they’ve designated catcher Elias Diaz for assignment. Outfielder Tyler Tolbert was recalled in a corresponding move.
Diaz, the 2023 All-Star Game MVP while a member of the Colorado Rockies, hit .227/.261/.591 with two home runs and five RBIs in 10 games with the Royals.
Kansas City added Diaz as a third catcher when Salvador Perez was experiencing hip issues, and he could end up back in the organization if he clears waivers.

Diaz played 106 games with the San Diego Padres in 2025, hitting nine homers with a .607 OPS.

The 35-year-old made his MLB debut back in 2015 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, playing parts of five seasons there before joining the Rockies.
Meanwhile, Tolbert has played in just seven Major League games this season, recording one hit in five trips to the plate.
